There are some good bookstores in Ubud if you want to buy books about tourism, Bali and Indonesia or buy postcards. Books are written in English, Dutch, and Indonesian, as well as various other international languages. Along the main street of Ubud, you can find Ganesha bookshop, Periplus bookstore. Ganesha Bookshop Ganesha is located next to Bali Buddha cafe. I visited the bookshops several times to find a map about Papua and a book about scuba diving in West Papua province. Ganesha bookshop has got a large collection of novel that are offered in affordable prices. If you have read the books that you bought from the bookshop, you can return them to it and get some money. Book lovers can also donate books to Balinese children through Ganeshe bookstore. Periplus Bookstore Periplus has got the largest collection of books that are written in English. There are significant number of titles about nature and ecology such as Birds of Indonesia, Tropical Plants, and Orchids. Periplus sells magazines too. Some of them are National Geography, Belle and Woman's Day. I highly recommend Bali Style Magazine. If you are looking for Indonesian recipes, go to Periplus bookstore and buy such books as Indonesian Cooking and Street Foods of Bali. I could not browse each title of the books on the shelves because most of them were wrapped in cellophane plastics. Times Bookshop One day I went to Bebek Bengil restaurant on Padang Tegal street. I ate fried duck, some long beans vegetables with steamed rice and drank a glass of ice tea. They were very delicious. It was a nice dinner. When I was about to leave the restaurant, I saw a bookstore on the front corner near the street. The name of the bookstore was Times. It was not easily visible from the street because most of the pedestrians would consider that there was only a Bebek Bengil restaurant there. Learning Indonesian Language and Photography were some of the categories that are available on its shelves. Although it was only a small shop, I was a nice bookstore.
I personally own a small bookstore in Manokwari city of West Papua province. That's why I always visit bookstores where ever I travel to compare and get important and unique ideas that can be used to improve my own business. If you don't find the books that you are looking for in those bookstores that I mention above or if you want to see books that are mostly written in Indonesian language, you can go to Gramedia bookstore in Denpasar city - the capital of Bali province. by Charles Roring |

Bali is the most popular tourist destination in Indonesia. Every day thousands of domestic and international travelers come to this island to enjoy swimming, sun bathing or appreciating its art and culture. Bali is also called "the island of the gods" due to the strong spiritual attachment of the Balinese people to Hinduism. In the following web pages, visitors will be able to read articles about Bali, its travel and tourism industry.
